In addition to that, it is involved in many processes involved in adaptive and innate immunity. Leptin biological activity strongly depends on its proper function and interactions with Ob-R receptor. It was shown, that leptin receptors are present on haematopoietic CD34+ stem cells, cell lines derived from erythropoietic, myeloid and lymphoblastic lineages, human leukemic blasts in acute myleoid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia and chronic myleoid leukemia as well as many other types of cancer cells. The broad variety of leptin biological actions make it a good target for research on cancer pathogenesis, including leukemias. Broadening of our knowledge concerning of leptin and its receptor on the hematopoietic system will give an opportunity to understand its relation to leukemia development.

Leptin and its receptor in hematologic malignancies.

Leptin is an adipocyte-derived cytokine coded by the obese gene, not only regulates metabolism, but also participates in hematopoiesis. Aberrant leptin levels in patients with hematologic malignancies were observed and associates with clinical characters, such as body mass index (BMI), gender, blast cell percentage. Leptin concentrations alter while diseases progress or remission. Leptin recept...

Expression of leptin and leptin receptor transcript in ovine corpus luteum

Background: Leptin, the product of the obesity (ob) gene, acts as a signaling adipokine for modulating food intake, energy metabolism and reproductive functions in mammals. Leptin’s effects on the reproductive system at various levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis have been established. Moreover, the direct and local effect of leptin on bovine oocyte maturation and corpus luteum fu...

CAR T-cell Therapy of Hematologic Malignancies: An Update in Targeted Antigens

Immunotherapy with genetically engineered T-cells that express the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) has raised hopes for the treatment of pediatric malignancies. Although CAR T-cell development is on a fast-moving pace and evolution, the context of exploring novel targetable antigens has been neglected. In this review study, we analyze the prominent hematologic antigens targeted by engineered T-...

Leptin and resistin levels in serum of patients with hematologic malignancies: correlation with clinical characteristics.

AIM To evaluate leptin and resistin levels in patients with various hematologic malignancies. METHODS We included 21 patients with lymphoma, 14 with multiple myeloma (MM), 14 with acute leukemia, 13 with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and 25 healthy control subjects into our study. The subjects' body mass indexes (BMI) were calculated; hematological and acute phase response parameters, s...

P-69: Expression of Leptin Receptor mRNA in Ovine Corpus Luteum

Background: Many hormones are involved in the regulation of reproduction. Leptin hormone which is mainly secreted by adipose tissue plays an important role in energy homeostasis and reproduction. It seems that leptin is an important linkage between body metabolism and reproductive system. Moreover, it has been shown that leptin and leptin receptor express in reproductive organs of some species....
